CINEMA PROGRAMME AT THEATR COLWYN
THEATR COLWYN’S cinema programme for 2012 begins with
MY WEEK WITH MARILYN (15) starring Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh.
It tells the true story of a star-struck young man, Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), working on a film set with Marilyn Monroe, who finds himself falling in love with the icon, played by Michelle Williams.
Branagh plays Sir Laurence Olivier in My Week With Marilyn, which also features the wonderful Judi Dench as stage doyenne Sybil Thorndike. The film screens on January 6,7,9,10,11.
SARAH’S KEY (12A) is a French language film with subtitles shown as a Rialto Night screening on Sunday, January 8.
In the lead role of Julia Jamond is British actress Kristin Scott-Thomas, as a journalist who uncovers a dreadful wartime secret in the history of her husband’s Paris-based family, connecting them to a Jewish family rounded up by French collaborating police working for the Nazis.
The world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, returns to Theatr Colwyn in January as a revamped, all action hero making his second appearance on the big screen played by Robert Downey Jnr, in
SHERLOCK HOLMES: GAME OF SHADOWS (12A).
Once more Holmes is joined by his formidable colleague, Dr Watson, but this time they take on an even more formidable foe – the new criminal mastermind, Professor Moriaty (Jared Harris). The movie also features Noomi Rapace (from the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo films) as the Gypsy fortune teller, Sim. Showing January 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4 –
Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise), an operative of IMF (the unofficial branch of the CIA) is working with a new team in the action-packed spy adventure,
GHOST PROTOCOL (12A).
Hunt is blamed for a terrorist bombing at the Kremlin in Moscow and he, along with rest of IMF, is disavowed when the President initiates ‘ghost protocol’.
Simon Pegg also stars in the film, which screens on January 21, 23, 24, 25, 26.
Meryl Streep is already tipped for an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in-
THE IRON LADY (12A) which screens on January 27, 28, 30, 31 and February 1, 2.
Featuring the very best of British acting talent, including Jim Broadbent as husband Dennis Thatcher, along with Olivia Colman, Richard E Grant and John Sessions, it tells the story of Thatcher’s rise through the political ranks from a married mother of two winning a seat as a Conservative MP to becoming the Prime Minister.
Tickets for general films at Theatr Colwyn, Colwyn Bay, are £2.50 for children and £3.50 for adults. Tickets for Rialto night screenings are £4.50.
